A Wish For Us

Have you ever made a wish? Closed your eyes, blew out the candles; have you ever thrown coins into a fountain and made a wish for yourself? I think whether seriously or in jest I think we all have. Have you ever had a wish for your kids, one that you earnestly wanted to come true or for them to realize? I definitely have wishes for my own kids that hurt so bad I want them to realize. Would you believe God has a wish for us? A wish he earnestly wants for us.

I have read this scripture before but blew past this point. Rev 3:15 says, “I know your deeds, that you are neither hot nor cold; I wish that you were cold or hot.” If you read on in the verse it says if you are lukewarm He will spit you out. That’s what I used to focus on, but recently I discovered that God sees me and has a wish for me. He is the creator of the whole world, multiple galaxies. He could grow tired of our selfish ways and create a whole new planet and turn His attention there, BUT He doesn’t.

He has a wish for us. What is that wish? Well the hot and cold hint tells us that he wants us to serve a purpose. Have you ever needed really cold drink on a super hot day, only to get a room temperature glass of water? That water doesn’t serve the purpose does it. Hot enough water serves as a sanitizer. Cold enough water in the form of ice preserves food for later. God is saying to us that we need to serve a purpose, and not be self serving, which is prevalent in our society.

Scripture has a place that sums up the answer to the Revelation scripture concerning being hot or cold. Matthew 22:40 Jesus says the whole law and the Prophets depend on this…Love. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your Soul, with all your mind and the second is just like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. That is God’s wish for us. Not that we do or buy all the crazy things we do, just love those around you. Go to the places he says to go and LOVE.

It has been interesting for me lately since I have been trying to put everyone before me and my needs. The love message is challenging. I think it is crazy the God of all things has a wish for me and for you. This is the message that we are bringing to our students that the sum of the whole Bible rests on Love.
